{ABOUT AMY}

My name is Amy Wilson.  I'm glad you're here.

{PERSONALLY}

Welcome!

I live at home in Massachusetts with my husband, three high school aged kids and our dogs, Betty and Millie. I absolutely love teaching, learning, reading and spending time with my family.  I enjoy organizing and creating systems for efficiency and a sense of calm.  Daily workouts and long walks help keep me focused, centered and ready to work. Nantucket is my second home and my happy place.

{PROFESSIONALLY}

My number one priority has always been establishing a positive rapport with my students, their families, and their teachers.  Within these relationships, we are able to create the best learning environment for children ~ together.

I have extensive knowledge and experience advocating for children and their families throughout the IEP (Individualized Education Program) process as well as creating curriculum modifications for students and working with teachers to implement accommodations and modifications in the classroom.

In over two decades, I have taught students with severe disabilities in a private school as well as students with severe and moderate disabilities in public school.  I have run substantially separate programs for intensive students in public school with inclusion opportunities and home servies.  I have run inclusion programs for intensive students in public school.  I have taught students with learning disabilities in full inclusion.  In all of these experiences, I have overseen paraprofessionals who work 1:1 or in small groups with students in and out of the classroom.  I have written IEPs for all of these students and implemented them with careful data collection and reporting.  I have a background in the principles of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), discrete trials, Social Thinking, and various reading and math programs.  Most of all, I have had the pleasure of working with the most amazing students and  their parents, all alongside some of the best educators around.

My career has afforded me the opportunity and ability to evaluate students in the area of academics. I have a broad understanding of interpreting test results and using the results of testing in other areas to develop an understanding of the scope of a student's profile.  I have worked with colleagues and families to determine whether a student is eligible for special education services based on classroom performance, test results and crucial family and teacher report.

Finally, and most importantly, I love to help.  Nothing makes me happier than helping children, families and educators. I believe that working together in a respectful, cooperative manner is the most effective way to advocate for children and participate in meetings.  If you're considering obtaining the help of a consultant...

I would love to put my experience to work for you and with you.
